The Statistical Study of 484 Biopsies of Tumor in E.N.T. field

Abstract
|
|
|
A statistical analysis of 484 biopsies of tumor at the department of otolaryngology, Jeonbug National University Hospital from Nov. 1976 to Oct . 1983 were Performed.
The purpose of the analysis was to advance the study of tumors in E.N.T. field in Korea. The results obtained were as follows ;
1. Among the total 484 cases, there were 187(38.6%) cases of malignant tumors and 297 cases (61.4%) of benign tumors. In the sex distribution of tumors, there were higher incidence in male at a ratio of 3 : 1 in malignancy and 1.5 : 1 in benign tumors.
2. In the age distribution of tumors, there were 91.4% in malignant tumors and 50.1% in benign tumors n the age group above forty.
3. Among the 187 cases of malignant tumors, nose and paranasal sinuses was the most frequent site of regional incidence showing 47 cases and larynx, oral cavity in ´order. Also among the 297 cases of benign tumors, the most frequent site was nose and paranasal sinuses as in malignant tumors, and larynx, oral cavity in the next place.
4. In malignancy, squamous cell carcinoma(153 cases ; 81.8%) was the most frequent histopathologic type and basal cell carcinoma(8 cases ; 4.3%) in the next place and in benign tumors, polyp (139 cases; 46.8%) was the most frequent type and papilloma, cyst in the next place.
